Feature: A NEW APPROACH TO RESOLUTIONS
Today is January 13th. How are you keeping up with your New Year’s resolutions?

The most common resolutions people make are around changes to their health - most often losing weight and/or excercising. Many of us set grand goals, but because we have not developed a real plan get there, we quickly find ourself off track, frustrated and giving up.  Following a new approach may provide a better way achieve your resolutions this year.

A Step-By-Step Approach To Making Change in 2007

1. Look at where you are and what it's taken to get you here
Look back on 2006 and acknowledge all of of your accomplishments during the year. Note the big things (a promotion at work) and little things (getting more sleep). Take stock of all those things that have made your life a little better and/or those that you feel proud of.
2. Recognize the need for change
List the things that you would like to change or achieve by the end of 2007 - both big and small things. What is the benefit of achieving the goal? A clear goal will be specific (what are you going to do, why and how), measurable (you'll know how to determine if you've achieved it), attainable (you'll figure out what you need to do), realistic (doable), and timely (you've created a timeframe for the goal). Big changes often require small steps along the way.
3. Take action and start small
Determine what it is that you are willing to do to move in the direction of your desired goal. What step can you take? Is that step doable now, or does it need to be broken down into a smaller step? Choose a step and make sure you understand what it is and how you will do it. Read how "feel-good self-care" is key to making healthy changes.
4. Reflect on how it's going
Action results in learning. Challenges are expected along the way; they are not a sign that you can't achieve what you desire. Setting up structures to anticipate or deal with challenges will be helpful.
5. Reward yourself
Reward your experiences. What do you want that reward to be? Perhaps you'd like to decide this in advance so you will have something specific to look forward to, or if you'd like to be spontaneous, that's fine too. Just make sure to take time to celebrate your successes, both big and small, as doing so will help increase your motivation.
6.Keep it going
All the experiences and action steps build on one another, especially when your action steps include "feel-good self-care", so you'll benefit from and want to stick with the changes you are making.

If you haven't yet decided on a New Years resolution, now is a good time.

Here are some healthful ideas to consider:
Eat healthfully by trying one new green leafy vegetable you notice at the grocery store each week.
Reconnect with one friend every month that you haven't seen in awhile.
Add more exercise to your week by either bumping up your routine or adding frequency to the amount of days you workout.
Clear your home or workspace of clutter by getting rid of few things a day. Doing so will have more of an impact on your life than you can imagine.

Stress Mastery: SMILE
Smiling is mechanism that works in two ways. We do it when we're relaxed and happy, and doing it can also make us feel relaxed and happy. Amazing! Smiling sends nerve impulses from the facial muscles to a key emotional center of the brain called the limbic system, moving the neurochemical balance toward calm. Try it out for yourself. How do you feel?

Food: PEARS
A good source of vitamin C and fiber, pears are a winter fruit.
